| Tinospora sagittata (Oliv.) Gagnep and T. sagittata var. craveniana (S. Y. Hu) H. S. Lo, which are medicinal plant from Menispermaceae, are two kinds of origin varieties of Radix Tinosporae. T. sagittata (Oliv.) Gagnep has been involved in every Edition of Chinese pharmacopoeia. This paper has studied the difference among different habitat and different morphous form the aspects of orthodox pharmacognocy, modern molecular biology and chemical compounds.1. It has identified the plant, appearance and microscope character. The results indicate that, except the difference of the size and appearance of leaf, there is no other significant difference.2. Applied technology of Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD), it has Amplified 32 sample which come from 4 area(6 clusters)by adopting 15 selected primers and it has applied clustering analysis. And then the analysis of cluster has carried out. 3. Applied technology of Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR), it has Amplified 10 sample which come from 4 area(6 clusters)by adopting 15 selected primers and it has applied clustering analysis. And then the analysis of cluster has carried out.4. It will apply SRAP (Sequence—related amplified polymorphism) for T. sagittata (Oliv.) Gagnep to optimize the reaction parameter one by one. And it has set up a foundation for the further T. sagittata (Oliv.) Gagnep species identification and genetic map.5. It has isolated 6 compounds from the extractive of radix Tinosporae, and identified these by the way of TLC, HPLC and 1H-NMR. They are columbin, palmitic acid,β-sitosterol, palmatine, columbamine, and jatrorrhizine.6. Applied technology of HPLC, it has studied the difference of T. sagittata (Oliv.) Gagnep. And T. sagittata var. craveniana (S. Y. Hu) H. S. Lo from Si Chuan at the level of chemical compounds. The columbamine can be the characteristic compound of identification of T. sagittata (Oliv.) Gagnep. In west china plant garden.
