Emmenopterys henryi Oliv (Rubiaceae) is one of the two species of the genus Emmenopterys Oliv, but the only one in China according to . Emmenopterys henryi Oliv occurs in southwest and Yangtze valley of China is large deciduous arbor, and it has white or yellew flower, so it is planted as ornamental in the gaden.The roots and barks of this plant, a Chinese folk medicine, are efficacious in therapying gastropathy.A systematically phytochemical study was carried out, which led to the isolation and identification of thirty-eight chemical constituents including alkaloids, iridoid glucosides, coumarins, lignans, triterpenoids, steroid etc. Among these compounds, two compounds are new (xgs-1 , xgs-11 and xgs-38). In anti-inflammatory activity test of ethanol extract, two extractive fractions and some compounds, the results of anti-inflammatory activity showed ethanol extract, n-BuOH fraction and compounds xgs-1, xgs-2, xgs-3 displayed inhibitory ability against LPS-induced NO production in RAW 264.7 macrophages.
