The Development Of APAC V Denture Adhesive (Preventing Mucosal Disease Type)

Denture adhesive (DA) is a kind of dental drug available over the counter made of adhesive material. It can produce adherence between the denture and its supporting tissue and can increase the retention and stability of the denture. Medicine also can be added into it, which can make it be the carrier of medicine for some oral mucosa disease. The placement of removable partial denture or full denture effects significantly on oral microecosystem and usually leads to caries, periodontitis and oral mucosa disease. Full denture, especially the upper, usually induces denture stomatitis because of the overmuch colonization of Candida albicans on its intaglio surface. Based on the reasons mentioned above, in this research, we added traditional Chinese herbal medicine that can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans into APAC I denture adhesive in order to research and develop a new one named APAC V, which not only increases the retention and stability of full denture but also can prevent denture stomatitis. First, among 9 kinds of Chinese herbal medicine medicated APAC V denture adhesive, we screened those that have an inhibiting effect on the growth of Candida albicans though testing the antibacterial property of them to the fermentum in vitro. Second, the minimum content of the Chinese herbal medicine screened in the first experiment in APAC V denture adhesive (MIC) was tested in vitro. Finally, we tested the retention of APAC V denture adhesive with INSTRON4302 mechanometer and assess the result by SPSS 11.0 software. The result shows as following: 1. APAC V containing 15% (w/w) Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi shows visible antibacterial property to Candida albicans while the others containing 15% Common Anemarrhena Rhizome, Solomonseal Rhizome, Common Bletilla Tuber, Chinese Gall, Rhubarb, Human Placenta, Giant Knotweed Rhizome or tea polyphenols doesn't. 2. MIC of APAC V denture adhesive to Candida albicans is that its content of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is 10% (w/w). 3. The retention of APAC V denture adhesive containing 15% or 10% (w/w) Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi is close to that of APAC I denture adhesive in vitro.Based on these findings, APAC V denture adhesive containing 10% (w/w) Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi can be a kind of dental praeparatum which not only promotes the retention and stability of full denture but also can prevent denture stomatitis.
