ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of PHGF(promoting hepatic growth factor) in patients with refractory cirrhotic ascites. And in this study we investigated the changes of hospitalization time of inpatient, hospitalisation costs, albumin quantity prescribed etc.MethodsOne hundred and sixty nine patients with cirrhotic ascites were enrolled into the present study. These patients were randomized into two groups: the treatment group (n=81) was given PHGF 80-100mg qd iv, the treatment duration was 15 days.88 people served as controls. Controls were matched to the patient population by sex, age and accord Child-Pugh classification standard. None of them had a history of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes or cancer. Blood samples were collected, after overnight fasting to assay alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST),γ-glutamyltranspeptidase (γ-GT), total bilirubin, albumin and prothrombin time. Then it was calculated that the hospitalization time and costs of the inpatient , albumin quantity prescribed etc. Statistical analysis adopted SPSS 11.5 software package. P < 0.05 was considered to have significant difference.Results1.PHGF can improve clinic symptom, recover liver function of inpatient. It have significant degression that PHGF group with compared to the control group (p<0.05).2.After apply PHGF , AST,γ-GT, TBIL of all the treatment group has descended trend. But differences of two groups have no significant difference c. 3. Patient ascites of treatment group after 3 days to start obvious decrease, 76 patients were cured in clinic among them, valid 2, invalid 3, the fade rate as 96.3%; But ascites of the control patients for 5-7 days to fade. The clinical cures patients was 39, valid 7, invalid 42, the fade rate as 52.3%. The fade rate showed significant difference between 2 groups (P<0.01).4. Results showed that the hospitalization time was 19.4±7.6 days on the observation in the treatment and the control was 36.1±17.7days.The difference has significant meaning (p<0.01).5.The numbers to apply ALB in the treatment groups was 7.13±5.12 sets, and the control groups was 24.62±13.63 set. The difference has significant meaning (p<0.01).6.The hospitalization time was 19.4±7.6 day in the treatment, and the control was 36.1±17.7 day. The treatment groups obviously fewer than the control (p<0.01) ; The hospitalization cost of the control was 15254.3±9880.4 yuan, and the treatment was 11595.3±5078.5 yuan. The difference has significant meaning (p<0.01).ConclusionPHGF can improve the liver function, reduce ascites and leg edema significantly, and then reduce the timing and costs of inpatient hospitalization , albumin quantity prescribed etc. At the same time ,it can reduce the time of paramedic in hospital and economy loss. So PHGF could be used to prevent ascites in cirrhotic patients.
