Objective: To investigate the association between Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 promoter genetic polymorphism and ischemic stroke in Chinese northern Han population. Methods: Detect the MMP-3 promoter SNP-1171 (5A/6A) genotype and allele of 557 ischemic strok patients and 412 normal subjects with PCR-RFLP, analysize the genotype and allele frequency distribution & association between MMP-3 genetic polymorphism and ischemic stroke. Results: The difference of MMP-3-1171 (5A/6A) genotype or allele distribution is insignificant, either between case and control group or between ischemic stroke subgroups and control group. Conclusion: MMP-3 promoter-1171 (5A/6A) polymorphism is not associated with ischemic stroke in Chinese northern Han population, as well as with large vessel atherosclerotic infarction, lacunar infarction, cerebral infarction with carotid atherosclerotic plaque and stenosis.
