Objective: To summarize the clinical features of 118 cases of SCLC of our hospital over a period of recent 8 years. To analyze the prognostic factors and find some clues for prevention and treatment of SCLC in future. Methods: The data of 118 hospital patients with SCLC in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from 2000 to 2007 were reviewed, and follow-up was made. The end-points of one-year, two-year, and three-year survival were set in accordance with the days when cases were enrolled into this study. The patients are classified into two groups: limited stage (LD) and extensive stage (ED).The standard is instituted by Veterans Affairs Lung Study Group (VALSG). Several factors which affect the prognosis of SCLC are analyzed by Cox regression analysis, such as age, gender, PS, stage, loss of weight, the level of LDH, anemia, metastasis and therapy methods. Results: The overall CR and PR rates were 33.3 % and 40.4 %. The total response rate was 73.7%.The 1- , 2- and 3-year survival rates were 76.3 %, 37.3 % and 14.4 %, with median survival time of 14 months. The tumor stage, the level of LDH, anemia, and treatment modality were all significant prognostic factors by both uni-variate and multi-variate analyses (P < 0. 05).Conclusion: The tumor stage, the level of LDH, anemia, and treatment modality were all significant prognostic factors to SCLC.Early diagnosis and therapy are the keys to promote the over survival rate and prognosis.Chemotherapy is still the main therapy method to SCLC in combined modality treatment.
