objective:To evaluate levels of serum leptin and soluble receptor(sOB-R) in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS) and note any relationships with insulin resistance, testosterone and adiposity. Methods:According to their body mass index, 70 PCOS patients were classified as28 patients in lean group(BMI﹤25 kg/m~2 )and 42 patients in obese group(BMI≥25kg/m~2). In all of them, Fasting Leptin and sOB-R levels were measured using ELISA kits. In addition, a glucose tolerance test and insulin releasing test were performed and anthropometric variables, endocrine parameters were evaluated..All the observed indexes were compared between the two groups.Correlation analysis were applied to explore the relationships between serum leptin,sOB-R and BMI,serum glucose, insulin sensitivity, sera sex hormone. Results: Leptin concentration, free leptin index(FLI)in obese PCOS women were significantly higher and sOB-R concentration was significantly lower than that in lean group(p<0.01). After controlling for body mass index in a partial correlation analysis, leptin concentration was significantly positive correlated with fasting insulin,AUCI,OGTT 1h insulin while sOB-R was negatively correlated with AUCI,OGTT 1h insulin(p<0.01).They all had no correlations with testosteron,LH,FSH(p>0.05). Conclusion:Leptin is related to insulin resistance of PCOS. sOB-R negatively correlating with BMI in PCOS patients increase the level of FLI. It maybe take part in the development of insulin resistence indirectly.
