Objective To understand the main causes of death and the characteristics for diabetic inpatients in First Affiliated Hospital of Xin jiang Medical University 1998-2007,and analysis about death cause based on ages, duration ,sex and FPG of DM, To statistics the complications. We hope that these dates will provide some primary information for diabetic epidemiological research in the local area. Materials and methods: By computer search system of our hospital, the case code of died DM patients during hospitalization in 1998-2007 were obtained. Those medical records were investigated and reviewed in detail to get useful information. Data input and analysis were conducted using the packages spss 13.0.Results cardiovascular disease was the first causes of deaths (22.6%), and then renal disease (19.9%), cerebral vascular disease (16.6%), tumor (13.6%), infection (13.0%) were followed. The proportion of renal disease among the total deaths in our hospital keeps increasing every year, especially after 2002.the age of cerebral vascular disease patients was the oldest and the infection's was the youngest. The duration of DM patient mainly concentrated below 10 years, cardiovascular disease was the first causes of deaths. The duration of renal disease was the longest and the tumor's was the shortest. Cardiovascular disease was the first causes of deaths in males and renal disease was the first causes of deaths in females. The level of FPG of cardiovascular disease and cerebral vascular disease were higher than renal disease. The common complications and combinations were renal disease (55.5%), infection (46.8%), hypertension (39.5%), coronary artery disease (35.2%), cerebral vascular disease(29.9%),acute metabolic disorder (13.29%), diabetic peripheral neuropathy(11.6%), diabetic retinopathy (10.3%). Lung was the most common site for infection, tuberculosis was not rarely. Conclusions Among the direct death causes of DM, cardiovascular disease ranked in the first in our hospital. The results should be pay attention to and be monitored. Prevented and cured in time. The proportion of renal disease among the total deaths keeps increasing every year, age, duration, sex and fasting plasma glucose of DM all influence the death causes.
