Abstract/Summary:
Objective To investigate the feasibility of the primary total hip replacement through a lateral incision anterior hip joint capsule approach. Methods Hip replacementwas performed in 62 cases (66 hip joints) from January 2003 to January 2008.The operation was comp leted through a anterior hip joint capsule approach, with the greater trochanter as the center. Results The mean length of incision was 11.5 cm ( range,9.0~14. 0 cm),the mean operation time was 125±25 min,and the mean blood loss 370±70 ml.No severe complications occurred. There are 43 cases were followed in 62 for 3 month to 5 year. Evaluation with the Harris hip score system showed excellent outcomes in 39cases (41 hip s) and good in 3 cases, with a rate of excellent or good results of 93.3%. Conclusion The lateral incision anterior hip joint capsule approach has advantages of minimal trauma, little blood loss, low complication rate, and quick recovery.
