Objective To evaluate distorted rate of RadioVisioGraphy(RVG) in bisecting angle techni -que through dental measurement. Methods Fifty extracted maxillary premolars were collected in the experiment. There were Thirty-four first maxillary premolars and sixteen second maxillary premolars. A 25mm file segment was used as the calibrated mark. Each tooth with the file was taken radiograph with Trophy RVG digital imaging system, and use bisecting angle technique to take pictures. The length of tooth , crown and root and the width of crown and cervix and the thickness of crown and cervix were measured in the RVG digital images with the software and compared with that measured with a vernier caliper on the teeth. The precision of the vernier caliper was 0.1mm. The results were analyzed by paired-samples t test. Results The length of tooth, crown and root and the width and thickness of crown and cervix measured from RVG image was 2.96%, 4.63% , 3.44%, 3.46%, 3.38%, 4.65%, 4.63%. larger than that from teeth. The measured lengths in the RVG digital images shew significantly different from actual teeth lengths. Conclusion The distort rate of RVG image should be considered in clinical application.
