Radiation therapy plays an important role in the cancer treatment. Co60 radiological therapy machine are commonly used in hospitals. Accurate analyses for the treatment target volume will help insure radiation therapy quality and effectiveness.There are two kinds of method for the calculation of tissue dose in radiotherapy, one is empirical method, the other is Monte Carlo method. Traditional empirical methods are of limited use in complex geometries.Here the Monte Carlo method is used to calculate the Co60γray dose distribution in a water phantom using the EGS4 software package. The sampling efficiency is improved by analytical method to confirm the direction of the incident particles. The results show that the off-axis and the depth dose distribution calculated by the Monte Carlo method is agree very well with measurements using RTS-200S. It indicates that the method used in calculating Co60γray dose distribution in water phantom is feasible.
