Aortic aneurysm is a symptom caused by abnormal dilation of part aortic wall. Aneurysm breaking is the main dangerous. Abdominal aortic aneurysm is aortic aneurysm on the abdomen. At advantage of computer visualization, a fully automatic Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system for AAA treatment is valuable and promising as the sharp and size of AAA can forecast the danger of surgery.AAA segmentation is composed of lumen and thrombus segmentation. Blood flows through lumen. There are calcifications in the thrombus. A novel approach for automatic segmentation of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) based on deformable model was proposed in this paper. First, the lumen is segmented based on thresholds. And the boundary of lumen is used to initialize the deformable model for thrombus. Combined with medical knowledge and relativity between two CT slices, the AAA could be segmented rapidly from a series of CT angiography (CTA). The results are close to the manual results by specialists. The 3D reconstruction adopts an improved Marching Cubes method. The consuming time is small. The method has been test on 2 patients'CTA scans having a total number of 846 image slices, and has shown promising results.
