Mental retardation is one of human psychosis illnesses. The underlying causes of mental retardation are extremely heterogeneous, and include significant genetic factors. IL1RAPL2 gene has specific pattern of expression in the hippocampus, and causes Mental retardation,we performed a case-control study(118 MR,116.borderline MR and 322 controls) focused on the Han population of northwestern China using five common SNPs (rs5962434,rs5916817,rs3764765,rs5962298,rs9887672)in the gene.Individual SNP analysis shows significant differences at SNP rs5962298 for both genotypes and alleles frequency when NSMR cases and controls in female(p=0.02;OR=1.63,95%CI=1.039-2.567,p=0.03).Pairwise linkage disequilibrium analysis showed that the three SNPs rs3764765,rs5962298,and rs9887672 were in strong linkage disequilibrium. Therefore a haplotype analysis was performed. However, there were no any significant differences in haplotype distributions between cases and controls in female. In conclusion,we have found no evidence for IL1RAPL2 conferring susceptibility on mental retardation in the Han Chinese population.
