Objective: To study the clinical characteristics and analyze the clinical and pathologic factors influencing bone metastasis from breast cancer after radical mastectomy. Methods: A retrospective study was made on the clinical data of 272 breast cancer cases form the year 2001 to 2003 after complex therapy, analyzed the risk factors influencing bone metastasis. Results: Among 272 patients, The rate of bone metastasis was 18.4%(50/272). In a review of the history records of 50 patients, the most common sites of bone metastases were in turn the spinal column, the pelvis, the chest, the body and so on; With univariate analysis, the racial of patients, the size of tumor, pathological type, TNM clinical stage, number of invaded axillary lymph nodes and age at the time of surgery or diagnosis were significant factors associated with bone metastasis after radical mastectomy. With multivariate analysis by Cox proportional hazards regression model showed that clinical stage, number of metastatic axillary lymph nodes and age at the time of surgery or diagnosis were independent factors associated with bone metastasis after radical mastectomy. Conclusions: The study indicates that clinical stage, number of metastatic axillary lymph nodes and age at the time of operation are important factors associated with the possibility of bone metastasis from breast cancer for patients after radical mastectomy...
