Curcuma kwangsiensis S.G.Lee et C.F.Ling is a medicinal herb distributed in the south of China,Guangxi Province, which belongs to Curcuma genus. The dried rhizome of Curcuma kwangsiensis has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of various cancers such as cervical carcinoma, vulva cancer, skin neoplasm, esophageal, gastric and intestinal cancer. The pharmacological studies have indicated that the chemical constituents from Curcuma kwangsiensis show strong bioactivity of anti-tumor and anti-virus.In this thesis, the chemical constituents from Curcuma kwangsiensis S.G.Lee et C.F.Ling were studied.Fifteen compounds were obtained by various chromatographic methods. On the basis of physico-chemical properties and spectral data, they were identfied as:1,7-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-hepta-4E,6E-dien-3-one(1),zederone(2), furanodiene(3),furanodienone(4),germacrone(5),(4S,5S)-germacrone-4,5-epoxide (6),germacrone-1,10-epoxide(7),zedoarol(8),4-hydroxybenzoic acid(9),p-hydroxy cinnamic acid(10),phthalic acid bis-(2-ethyl-hexyl)ester(11),phthalic acid dibutyl ester(12),phthalic acid bis-(2-methyl-propyl)ester(13),β-sitosterol(14),β-dauco sterol(15).Compound 1 was isolated from Curcuma genus for the first time. Compounds 2-4,6-10 were isolated from Curcuma kwangsiensis for the first time.
