Melia azedarach L.Sied.has been prescribed in the traditional Chinese medicines for a long time.It is mainly used for the treatment of gastroenterological diseases.Chemical constituents of this genus comprise triterpenes, diterpenes, coumarins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, steroids and so on.This paper describes the isolation and structural elucidation of the constituents from Melia azedarach L.Sied..Air-dried root or stem bark of Melia azedarach L.Sied.were extracted with 95%EtOH(φ)at room temperature.By means of solvent extraction, chromatography on silica gel columns,19 compounds were isolated.NMR and MS spectral methods were utilized for structural identification, and 15 of them were elucidated as:Vanillin(1),5α-Stigmasta-3,6-dione(2),α-Spinasterone(3), Ergosta-5-en-3-ol(4),Ferulic acid(5),Benzoic acid(6),o-Phthalic acid(7),24-Methylenecycloarten -3-one(8),Lupeol(9),β-Sitosterol(10),p-Quinone(11),Thapsic acid(12),Isojacareubin(13), Syringaresinol-di-O-β-D-glucoside(14),Daucosterol(15)respectively.While,compound 16-19 were identified as two fatty alcohols,an alkaloid and a sesquiterpene derivative.Among them, compound 2,3,4,5,7,8,11,12,13 and 14 were isolated from the Melia genus for the first time. The result of this study will supply the material basis for further exploitation and research.
