As a Chinese folk medicine, the ripe fruits of Melia toosendan Sieb. et Zucc(Meliaceae) is used as an anodyne for malaria, sting, stomach ache caused by roundworms, etc., and as an insecticide.[2] The hydrophobic constituents of M.toosendan have been widely investigated and toosendanin was identified as an effective pesticide for roundworms[3]. Others like limonoid antifeedants and anti-cancer compounds were also reported[4~6]. In this chemical study on the ripe fruits of Melia toosendan Sieb. et Zucc, eight compounds have been isolated. On the basis of chemical reactions, spectral evidences and also by comparison with some authentic samples and their standard spectras, six of them are proposed as follows:β-Sitosterol MT-1, 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural MT-2, hexadecanoicacid MT-3, Vanillin MT-4, Trichilinin H MT-6, 12-O-acetyltrichilin B MT-7, MT-2, MT-3, MT-4, MT-6, MT-7 are firstly isolated from the fruits of Melia toosendan Sieb. et Zucc.Meanwhile, this study has compared the HPLC fingerprints and GC-MS of the fruits of Melia toosendanby and its prepared product.
