Objective:To investigate the serum level of Gc protein in severe hepatitis patients and the relationship between Gc protein and hepatic prognosis. To evaluate the effect of Gc protein to hepatic prognosis and to provide a good index to liver transplanting. Methods:We retrospectively collected the hospital files of 48 in patients from April,2004 to June,2007 for the treatment of severe hepatitis in department of infectious disease, the first hospital,ShanXi medical university. The patients were divided into survival group and deteriorated group. The two groups were analyzed by Gc protein and MELD,then conducted by ROC curve analysis.Results:(1) The serum level of Gc protein of 48 patients with severe hepatitis was lower than of the healthy individual(P<0.01),Serum Gc protein level in deteriorated group was lower than in survival group. (P<0.05). (2)The death rate of severe hepatitis was rising according with the lower Gc protein. (3)The serum level of Gc protein was negative correlation with MELD,(rs =-0.759 P<0.001). (4)The area under the ROC curve for Gc protein was 0.804,compared with 0.847 for the MELD.Conclusion: (1)Perhaps the serum Gc protein level will become a useful prognosis index in severe hepatitis patients.,and might be a useful test for paitein being considered for liver transplantation.(2) There was difference among the serum Gc protein level in survival group and deteriorated group of severe hepatitis,in a sense, the serum Gc protein level can reflect the state of hepatocyte regeneration. (3) The inhibition ELISA assay to test Gc protein level is simple, rapid and sensitive, and it campares favorably with MELD.
