Objective: Due to different diagnosis of the severe hepatitis betweenChina and out of China, it is necessary to import the model for end-stagelive disease (MELD). Through MELD scoring for 250 severe hepatitis clinicalmaterial, evaluate the patient' s condition and prognosis to verify theapplicability of MELD system in Chinese. Methods: The clinical data of 250 severe hepatitis were collected andevaluated by MELD scoring system to evaluate the severe hepatitispatient' s condition and prognosis ; and compare the capability inpredicting the prognosis of severe hepatitis among 3 predictionsystems: Model for end-stage liver disease(MELD),Child-Turcotte-Pugh(CTP)system and PTA.Results: The MELD scores of the dead group were higher remarkable thanthose of the surviving group (p<0. 01The scores of MELD had positive correlation with the actual fatalityrate, when the scores of MELD (?)40, 89.0 percents of the patients weredeteriorated, when the scores of MELD (?) 30, 68.0 percents weredeteriorated; when the activity of PT (PTA) is less than 20%, 91.9percents were deteriorated and when PTA < 30 % , 74. 0 percents weredeteriorated. Conclusions: MELD is suitable for Chinese. MELD scoring system can bepopularized in Chinese. The score of MELD in severe hepatitis are correlated to the patient' s condition and prognosis. The predictive capability of MELD system and activity of PT is better than CTP system.
