Objective To analysis the aetiology, clinical characteristics, therapies of hospitalized patients with cardiac arrhythmia in First Clinical Medical College,Shanxi Medical University, and review the variables of the 2 years(from January lst,1994 to December 31st,1994 and from July lst,2006 to june 30th,2007).A conclusion could be made about clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of hospitalized cases with cardiac arrhythmia. More information of prevention and treatment strategy would be provided. At the same time, precious data was collected for the more large-scale epidemiology survey in future days. Methods 644 hospitalized cases with the diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmia were collected in the late 2 years in the First Clinical Medical College,Shanxi Medical University. More variables including general items, aetiology, complications, the main check, therapies, prognosis and diagnosis were recorded in detail. A retrospective analysis was performed. Results (1) Mean age was higher in the latter year(52.96±11.25 vs 62.85±14.02; P<0.05),Among them, the number of older cases (whose age was over 65 years old) were significantly increased in the latter year(25.68% vs 64.26%; P<0.05). The sex proportion had no significant difference between two years(P﹥0.05).Mean inhospital duration was shorter in the latter year(16.72±8.01 vs 10.01±4.64; P<0.05). (2) The cardiac arrhythmia incidence rate of hospitalized patients was higher in the latter year(24.63%vs27.71%; P<0.05). (3) The main correlation factor of hospitalized cases with cardiac arrhythmia in the 2 years generally included essential hypertension(EHT , 33.13%),coronary artery heart disease(CHD,26.91%),diabetes mellitus(DM,8.97%),rheumatic heart disease (RHD,7.78%),dilated cardio- myopathy (DCM,5.50%).The rate of single correlation factor was predominant during the former year, while the rate of multiple correlation factor was predominant during the latter year. The combination of double correlation factor most commonly seen was CAD complicated with EHT (5.59%),and the combination of the triplex correlation factor most commonly seen was CHD complicated with EHT and DM (3.26%). (4) The type proportion had no significant difference between two years,Atrial fibrillation (AF) was the most common arrhythmia in the general cases with cardiac arrhythmia(20.98%vs23.68%,P﹥0.05),then was the supraventricular tachycardiaseen and premature ventriculargeneral. and more commonly seen in males. (5) The paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia(PSVT) had no significant difference between the young and middle-old proportion, the rest types of arrhythmia are most for the middle-old proportion. The paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) had no significant difference between the sex proportion, atrial premature beats is most for male, the rest types of arrhythmia are most for female. The types of arrhythmia had no significant difference between the four seasons. (6) The therapies of cardiac arrhythmia prevailed in medications and intervention therapies. The usage rate of medications decreased, while that of intervention therapies increased gradually. Conclusions The cardiac arrhythmia incidence rate of hospitalized patients was higher in the latter year. EHT,CAD and DM were the most underlying correlation factor in general cases with cardiac arrhythmia in the two years. The correlation factor spectrum of the hospitalized cases with cardiac arrhythmia changed markedly. CAD was the main correlation factor during the two years. RHD decreased,DCM and DM increased gradually as time went by. The combination of double correlation factor most commonly seen was CAD complicated with EHT. The combination of triplex correlation factor most commonly seen was CAD complicated with EHT and DM. AF was the most common arrhythmia in the general cases with cardiac arrhythmia. The usage rate of intervention therapies increased gradually. The change of cardiac arrhythmia incidence rate, type proportion and correlation factor would ascribe to improvement of life and treatment level.
