Objective:To evaluate the expression of HDGF and its implication in breast cancer. Methods:Immunohistochemical technique was used to detected the expression of HDGF in 113 breast cancer tissues and 32 breast hyperplasia tissues. At the same time, the expression of ER,PR and Her-2 were detected in breast cancer.Their relation with clinical data were compared and analyzed statistically.Univariate analysis and multivariate analysis were applied. Results:The expression of H·DGF in breast cancer tissues samples was higher than that in breast hyperplasia tissues samples(P=0.01).There were no relationship between the expression of HDGF and age, pathology type and menostasis(P>0.05).However,patients with HDGF over-expression showed higher rates of large tumor size(P=0.002), lymphnode metastasis(P<0.001)and distant metastasis(P=0.017).The expression of HDGF was positivly related to the expression of Her-2(P<0.001),but not to the expression of ER,PR in breast cancer(P>0.05).Univariate analysis showed that patients with low HDGF expression had a higher 5-year survival rates than that with HDGF over-expression(80.77%vs.50.82%,P=0.008).Multivariate analysis showed that HDGF was an important prognostic factor for breast cancer(RR=1.263,P=0.023).Conclusions:The over-expression of HDGF was involved in the bad prognosis of breast cancer. There was a positive relationship between HDGF expression and Her-2 expression in breast cancer. It's a new prognostic factor for patients of breast cancer.
