| Objective: There is no concordant and systematic view in Chinese medicine theory about VH at present. Most clinical Chinese medical research is influenced by modern anatomy, therefore, performing the therapy with locating the focus of infection in "Chinese liver" leads to an uncertain long term efficacy, even aggravate the disease. In fact, the main symptoms of clinical VH is digestive system-related, resembles to "Chinese spleen system" disorder. Divergency has generated with regard to the theoretical recognition and clinical practice of VH. The objective of our research in this paper is to solve this divergency and unify the recognition in traditional Chinese medicine and the present clinical practice of VH.Methods: Referring to a great quantity of classical works in traditional Chinese medicine, we revealed that the pristine understanding of VH was considered to be "Chinese spleen palsy". Then, we demonstrated the cause of the divergency mentioned above from its genesis and established the rational theory of "Chinese spleen system"-related therapy targeting VH.Content: This research is divided into three parts: Firstly, through summarizing the clinic and the present scientific research, we got the message of the progress and overview in VH investigation. Secondly, suggesting the relationship between VH and "Chinese spleen palsy" with classical discussion, location of infection focus and the character decision of "xieqi", in order to establish the theoretical bridge between VH and "Chinese spleen palsy". Lastly, introducing the therapeutic principle of VH based on "Chinese spleen palsy" hypothesis under our years of clinical experiences and traditional theory. Conclusion: VH belongs to "Chinese spleen system"-related "xuefen bing". The "xieqi" character of this disease is "feng"-"Chinese spleen feng". In theoretical aspect, the initial stage of this hypothesis is "Chinese spleen palsy" in traditional Chinese medicine theory. Emphasizing on "Chinese spleen system"-related therapy, we not only discern the differential diagnosis of diseases but also the differentiation of symptoms and signs, then design reasonable methods according to specific situation.Significance: This research has brought new insight into VH treatment using traditional Chinese medicine, as an original hypothesis, it sheds new light on reliable therapeutical principle in VH treatment and provides correct directions. Moreover, our work also contributes to the unify of VH in Chinese medicine theory. Nonetheless, this researchlays particular emphasis on theoretical demonstration, further investigation and practiceproof are still needed. |
