Objective:In order to provide proper treatments for patients with simple Lumbar Disc Herniation (LDH), the author observes and compares the outcomes between mini-trauma technology and traditional operational methods through analyzing the application of percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD) and vertebral lamia fenestration (VLF) in the treatment of LDH.Methods:126 patients who had a diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation during Oct ,2005-Apr,2007 underwent performance of PLDD and vertebral lamia fenestration.VAS pain scores and the degree of Straight leg rasing test were collected before and two weeks after treatment. All patients were followed up on the time of two weeks,3 months post-operation and classified in"Excellent,Good ,Fine and Poor"four grades with outcome assessment of Zhonghua Orthopedic Association.Clinical data of them were collected for statistical analysis.Results:1.Vertebral lamia fenestration(VLF) and Percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD) all show significant effect on easing the pain of patients and improving their degrees of Straight leg rasing test(P<0.05).The VAS scores and degrees have no differences between PLDD and VLF before and after the operations(P> 0.05). 2.Patients were followed up until 3 months.Based on the standard of Zhonghua Orthopedic Association, short-term excellent rate is 75.0% for PLDD group and 67.6% for VLF group, with no significant difference (P> 0.05); middle-term excellent rate is 88.5% for PLDD group and 73.0% for VLF group, it shows significant difference (P< 0.05).Conclusions: PLDD and VLF have significant effect to ease pain of patients and improve their degree of SLRT,with few complications.PLDD has higher excellent rate on middle-term,so it is an effective method to treat simple LDH.
