Objective:To determine the expression of MMP-1, MMP-2 and MMP-3 in the dermis below the seborrheic keratosis and nomal skin which is in sun-exposed and non-sun-exposed location and to explore the correlation with photoaging. Methods:The number of sun-exposed seborrheic keratosis and normal skin paraffin-embedded tissues was 30 and 21, the number of non-sun-exposed seborrheic keratosis and normal skin paraffin-embedded tissues was 30 and 23. The expression of MMP-1, MMP-2 and MMP-3 in the dermis below the seborrheic keratosis and nomal skin was measured by immunohistochemical method. x~2 test was used for data analysis by SPSS 13. 0.Results: The brown granules occurred in the cytoplast of fibroblast, which was positive. MMP-1, MMP-2 and MMP-3 were not expressed both in the seborrheic keratosis and normal epidermis. The positivity rates of MMP-1, MMP-2 and MMP-3 in fibroblast below the sun-exposed seborrheic keratosis were 90%, 76. 7% and 86. 7% respectively, which in normal skin were 47. 6%, 42. 9% and 47. 6% . There was a significant difference between them (P<0. 05). The positivity rates of MMP-1, MMP-2 and MMP-3 in fibroblast below non-sun-exposed seborrheic keratosis were 26. 7%, 23. 3% and 30% respectively, which in normal skin were 30.4%, 26. 1% and 30.4% . There was no significant difference between them (P>0.05).Conclusion: 1)Photoaging maybe an induced factor to sun-exposed seborrheic keratosis. 2)There was no direct correlation between non-sun-exposed seborrheic keratosis and photoaging.
