ObjectiveTo investigate the value of alcohol flushing to predict the efficacy of glyceryl trinitrate on angina pectoris attacks.MethodsTwo hundred and thirty-one patients with coronary heart disease, who were confirmed by coronary angiography, were enrolled in this study. The genotypes of ALDH2 were determined by polymerase chain reaction and direct sequencing. The patients were divided into two groups according to alcohol flushing:no-flushing group(n=111)and flushing group(n=120).To investigate risk factors of coronary heart disease and examine blood routine analysis, and so on.The efficacy of glyceryl trinitrate on angina pectoris for all the patients was gained by questionnaire.Base clinical characteristics and glyceryl trinitrate efficacy between the two groups were compared.ResultsThe rate of efficacious response to glyceryl trinitrate and ALDH2*1 genotype in no-flushing group were significantly higher than those in the flushing group(88.3%vs 39.2%,P<0.01;85.6%vs 41.7%,P<0.01).The rate of efficacious response to glyceryl trinitrate was significantly higher in the patients with ALDH2* 1 genotype than the patients with ALDH2*2 genotype(80.7%vs 32.6%,P<0.01).ConclusionEfficacy of GTN can be predicted by whether alcohol flushing, which could be explained by the effect of gene polymorphisms.
