Objective : To investigate the prevalence, clinical characteristics , neuroimaging feature, and the risk factors of 52 cases of ACI.Methods: From 220 cases of cerebral infarction hospitalized in Neurological Department of Shandong Provincial Hospital between December 2006 and December 2007,we diagnosed 52 cases of asymptomatic cerebral infarction .With the study of their clinical characteristics and accessory examinations , we discussed the prevalence, clinical characteristics , neuroimaging feature, and the risk factors of asymptomatic cerebral infarction.Results:1, In CT or MRI examinations,we diagnosed 52 cases of ACI from 220 cases of cerebral infartion. The prevalence rate of ACI were 23.6%. And most patients were older people.2, the clinical syndromes were often transient, slight, and unspecific. For example ,headache, dizzy, subject feeling limb numbness ,powerless ,slightly intelligence decline and so on. There usually was no specific neurological symptoms and signs.3, MRI examination was better for the diagnosis of ACI. Most infarctions were multipal lacuna cerebral infarctions, and most of the infarction position lay in frontal lobe(50.0%) , parietal lobe(51.9%) ,basal ganglia(28.8%) ,occipital lobe(21.2%) and so on.4, There were many risk factors of ACI , including age, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation and so on. And hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia were most important.Conclusions:1, ACI is often seen in patients of cerebral infarction. It is a kind of common cerebral vascular disease. And it could became worse and worse,so we should pay attention to it.2, There is no specific neurological symptoms and signs. And usually there are just some transient, slight, and unspecific syndromes. So we can only depend on the neuroimaging methods to make the diagnosis. We believe MRI is better than CT.3, Most of the infarctions are in deep cerebral tissue and usually very small. Multipal infarctions are common, and can develop to symptomatic.4, the risk factors of ACI were almost the same to the symptomatic cerebral infarction. And hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia were most important.
