Cryptococcus neoformans is one of the most important mandical fungus,which could infect both immunocompromised,and immumocompetent host.The incidence of cryptococcosis has increased significantly during the past decades.It may infect all the organs of the body with the increasing morbidity of immunosuppressive states such as acquired immunmdeficiency syndrome(AIDS).The meningitis or meningoencephalitis caused by cryptoccus neoformans striking the Central Nervous System is a lifethreatening infection with huge mortality.Currently,study on pathogenesis of brain edema of cryptococcosis is rare.Althougt the mechanism of the infection remains to know,some studies show that Cryptococcus neoformans may be inhaled as spore,crossing the air-blood barrier even the blood-brain barrier into the CNS.In the research on the relation between AQP4 espression and brain edema after cryptococcus infection,we established the cryptococcal meningitis model in C57BL/6 mice This work was to investigate the changes of AQP4 expression after CNS cryptococcus infection,and to study the relationship between the formation of the brain edema and the changes of AQP4 expression.In the research,the brain water content was significantly higher in test group than that in control group at 6h,12h,24h and48h.The level of AQP4 expression increased at 24h after injecting cryptococcus,and the peak time of it was at 48h.Both the expression of AQP4 and the brain water content increased after CNS cryptococcus infection.The result imply that that AQP4 may play an important role in the process of Cryptoccosis.
