Objective:To explore the correlations between andvanced protein oxidation products-associated with oxidtive stress and laboratory indexes, disease activity and lupus nephritis(LN) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Methods:The levels of AOPPs,MDA and TNF-αand activities of SOD were compared by spectrophotometry and ELISA in plasma from well-established SLE patients (n=31)and healthy control subjects(n=33), and discussed for their relevance in various clinical symptoms, laboratory indexes and SLEDAI score .Results:Prevalence of AOPPs in plasma was significantly higher in SLE patients compared to healthy subjects(p﹤0.05). The levels of AOPPs of active group were higher than those of stable group (P﹤0.05). The levels of AOPPs of with the kidney implicated group were higher than those of without kidney implicated group(P﹤0.05).Plasma concentration of AOPPs in lower C3 levels group were higher than those in normal C3 levels group(P﹤0.05).The levels of AOPPs of anti-ds-DNA body postive group were higher than those of anti-ds-DNA body negative group(P﹤0.05).No significant association was found between different age and duration (P=0.18,P=0.36).The level of plasma AOPPs in SLE patients was correlated with SLEDAI score, the level of plasma MDA and cholesterol(r=0.56,P=0.001;r=0.42,P=0.016;r=0.36,P=0.048). The level of plasma MDA was negative correlated with the activty of SOD(r=-0.40,P=0.024).No correlation was observed between AOPPs and TNF-α(rs=0.09 P=0.60).Conclusion:AOPPs in plasma has a close relationship with the activity of SLE and the patients who suffered kidney damage.AOPPs can be served as a approach for the assessment of the state of oxidative stress in SLE patients.AOPPs probaly involve in accelerated atherosclerosis of SLE patients.
