Objective:To investigate the expression of CD24 membrane glycoprotein and FAK(focal adhesion kinase) in the breast carcinoma tissue, to seek their relationship with cancer proliferation, invasion and metastasis, to study the relationship between the cell signaling transduction system mediated by FAK and the development of breast carcinoma, and to study the participation in the development function mechanism of CD24 in tumor cell. Methods:Tissues were obtained from 86 patients with breast carcinoma and 30 non-neoplastic mammary tissues. The expression of CD24 and FAK was detected by immunohistochemical technique (ElivisionTMPlus). Results: (1)The positive rate of CD24 and FAK expression in 86 cases of breast carcinoma was 87.2 % (75/86) and 72.1 % (62/86) respectively, which was significantly different from that in the control group(P<0. 01); (2)Expression of CD24 was significantly correlated with axillary lymph node metastasis(P<0. 01) and was positively related to Ki67(rs =0.314, P<0.01); Expression of FAK was correlated with histopathologic grade, axillary lymph node metastasis and clinical stage(P﹤0.05), was positively related to Ki67 (rs =0.250, P<0.01) and Bcl-2(rs =0.224, P<0.05); (3) There was a positive correlation between the expressions of CD24 and FAK in breast carcinoma tissues(rs=0. 222, P﹤0. 05); in the breast cacinoma with FAK postive expression, the Ki67 proliferation index and the emerging rate of axillary lymph node metastasis of the cases with CD24 postive expression are apparently higher than those with CD24 negative expression(P﹤0. 05).Conclusion:Expression of CD24 and FAK are closely correlated with the development of breast carcinoma and there is a markly positive correlation exists between CD24 and FAK expression. CD24 possible participates in the the regulation and the function reactivation process of the FAK protein in direct or indirectly way. CD24 can be a new target in the intervention therapy aimed at the tumor cell signaling transduction; detecting these indexes can be helpful in assessment of the malignancy grade and biological behavior of breast carcinoma.
