Objective To investigate lymphocyte homing receptor Integrina4B7 and L-selectin expression in gastrointestinal dysfunction or failure,non- gastrointestinal dysfunction in the critical children and in normal children.to analyze it,s possible mechanisms of changing immune function. Methods Forty-five patients with severe case, aged from 4 months to 14 years old were enrolled and divided into two groups:(20 patients)and gastrointestinal dysfunction group(25 patients).25 age-matched normal children were as controls. The percentage of Integrina4β7(+),L-selectin(+)lymphocytes in peripheral blood were measured by flow cytometry. Results The percentage of Integrina4β7(+),L-selectin(+)lymphocytes in peripheral blood in stomach intestine dysfunction was significantly lower than other groups. There is statistical significance between non- gastrointestinal dysfunction group and gastrointestinal dysfunction group(p<0.05),and between normal controls and stomach intestine dysfunction group too(p<0.05).Conclusions There were less Integrina4β7(+),L-selectin(+)lymphocytes in peripheral blood in the early stage of gastrointestinal dysfunction group in the critical children. lymphocyte home to intestine and intestinal immune function suppression occurred. Integrin a4β7 and L-selectin are looking forword to be biomarker which early diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal dysfunction or failure in the critical children.
