Objective: To quantitatively measure and compare the changes of anterior chamber by using ultrasound biomicroscopy, and to observe the changes of intraocular pressure before and after cataract surgery, discussing the change law and the significance of anterior chamber morphological features and intraocular pressure. Methods: The operation of phacoemulsification and foldable IOL implantation were performed in 50 eyes of 50 senior cataract patients .The depth of anterior chamber and the width of anterior chamber angle were determined quantitatively and the position of the intraocular lenses was discovered by using ultrasound biomicroscopy before and 1st,2nd,3rd month after the surgery. The visual acuity and intraocular pressure were measured in 1st,3rd,7th,15th day and 1st,2nd,3rd month after the surgery. The ocular complications were discovered at the same time.Results:1.In all patients , there was significant difference( P <0.05) of ACD (anterior chamber distance),TIA500 (trabecular-iris angle at 500μm from the scleral spur), AOD500 (angle- opening distance at 500μm from the scleral spur) and AOD250 (angle-opening distance at 250μm from the scleral spur) , TCPD ( trabecular-ciliary processes distance ), CPSA(ciliary-scleral angle) among 1st,2nd,3rd month pre-operation and post-operation .And they were all increased significantly after the operation.2. There was no significant difference (P>0.05) of above -mentioned measurements among the 1st,2nd,3rd month after surgery.3.The intraocular pressure of post-operation was lower than pre-operation and there was significant difference( P <0.05) between them. But there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) among the each time points post-operation.4. The postoperative visual acuity was significantly better than preoperative visual acuity( P< 0.05).All intraocular lenses were implanted in the bag and shown the well symmetrical in posterior chamber. Serious ocular complications were not discovered after surgery.Conclusions:1. The anterior chamber angle was widened and the anterior chamber distance was deepened significantly after the operation of phacoemulsification and foldable IOL implantation. The measurements kept stable on 1st month after surgery.2. The intraocular pressure was also reduced to some extent after this surgery.
