Purpose The present study introduced a semi-quantitative exercise test, and compared the novel test with classic epinephrine test to evaluate if the novel test is able to replace the classic test. Methods Venous blood samples were collected from healthy adult before(0 min)and 5,10,15,20,25,60,120 and 180min after exercise test and before(0 min)and 5,10, 15,20 and 25 min after epinephrine test on the second day.Complete blood count was performed with an automated blood counter.Difference before and after the tests was statistically analyzed.Result Five min after exercise, white blood cell(WBC),neutrophil(NEUT)and lymphocyte(LYM)elevate to their peak values in comparison with those before exercise (p<0.0001).Fifteen min after exercise,WBC,NEUT and LYM decreased to 0 min.Ten min after exercise,,red blood cell(RBC),hemoglobin(HGB)and hematocrit(HCT) elevate to their peak values in comparison with those before exercise(p=0.0164,p =0.0078,p=0.0002).RBC,HGB and HCT decreased to the count before exercise between 20 min and 25 min.Five min after exercise, platelet(PLT)elevate to their peak values in comparison with those before exercise(p<0.0001).Fifteen min after exercise,PLT decreased to the count before exercise.Ten min after epinephrine test, white blood cell (WBC),neutrophil(NEUT)and lymphocyte(LYM)rise to their summit counts compared with the values before epinephrine(p<0.0001,p<0.001,p=0.01).Red blood cell(RBC)and other parameters had a little change, but they had not significantly change.Ten min after epinephrine test, platelet(PLT)rise to their summit counts compared with the values before epinephrine(p=0.002).WBC and absolute neutrophil count were significantly elevated after both tests and followed a parallel pattern of elevation, especially NEUT.Conclusion After semi-quantitative exercise test,The cell parameters increased, and rebounded after the test.semi-quantitative exercise test and epinephrine test WBC, NEUT and LYM had the similar time-count,and semi-quantitative exercise test can well replace epinephrine test with its simplicity, more safety and better patient's compliance for the exercise test. Purpose To investigate whether semi-quantitative exercise test can replace epinephrine test in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of patients with leukopenia. Methods Venous blood samples were obtained from patients with leucopenia before(0 min)and 5 min after exercise test and before(0 min)and 10 min after subcutaneous injection 0.1%epinephrine on the second day.Complete blood count was performed with an automated blood counter.Difference before and after the tests was statistically analyzed. The clinical usefulness of the exercise test was also discussed.Result Use 95%upper confidence limits of mean value as discriminant cut-off,42.42% patients in the semi-quantitative exercise test exceeded the WBC cut-off value while 42.42%did so in the epinephrine test;37.93%patients in the semi-quantitative exercise test exceeded the NEUT cut-off value and so did 34.48%in the epinephrine test;37.14%patients in the semi-quantitative exercise test surpassed the LYM cut-off value while 37.14%in the epinephrine test did so.All WBC,NEUT and LYM in leukopenic patients were not significantly different(p=0.424,p=0.998,p=0.187).Conclusion Semi-quantitative exercise test can replace epinephrine test. The novel exercise test is potentially useful in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of patients with leucopenia with its greater safety profile, simplicity and better patient's compliancy.
