OBJECTIVE In recent years, many investigation about health-related quality of life (HRQOL) had been made among adults and pupils, especially in some patients. No data are available in nursing students in Chinese population. The aim of this study was to analyze the health related quality of life among nursing students and to investigate factors associated with the QOL of the students.METHODS The Chinese version of Short Form-36 was used to measure HRQOL of 534 nursing students from a public health school. For all students, demographic data including sex, grade, censue register, the home situation, relationship between classmates,storts, quality of sleep, confidention, interest and pressure and expected value of study, anxious were collected. Before all the students completed a health-related quality of life questionnaire, the teacher should introduce the objective,method to write , and some announcements need to be known. Data were compared with values of 1 random sample of Chinese population. Factors associated with poor HRQOL were identified by univariate analysis and multiple logistic regressions. All statistical analyses were carried out by using SPSS13.0 for Windows.RESULTS Physical function(PF) got the highest score in eight domains. The second was body pain (BP), while the role emotional (RE) got the lowest score. When compared with the control group,The quality of students impaired in some domains which reflect the mental health. Logistic regression shows that sex,home situation, Single parent family, relationship between classmates,the quality of sleep, confidention and anxious were the factors most closely associated with poor HRQOL.CONCLUSIONS HRQOL of nursing students were impaired obviously in mental domain. Sex, home situation, single parent family, relationship between classmates, the quality of sleep, confidention and anxious are independent factors associated with poor HRQOL. These data are the basis for longitudinal studies.
