Wavefront Aberration And Its Association With Intraocular Pressure, Central Corneal Thickness And Axial Length In Myopic Eyes

[Objective]To study the association between intraocular pressure(IOP), central corneal thickness(CCT),axial length(AL)and high-order wavefront aberrations in the anterior cornea and the whole eye in young people of myopia..[Methods]One hundred and sixty four eyes of eighty-two myopic subjects at the age 16 to 24 were enrolled in this study.They were tested with iTrace wavefront aberrometry for wavefront aberrations both in the anterior corneal surface and the whole eye.The IOP,CCT and AL were measured by a noncontact tonometer,a Pentacam visual functional analysator and optic coherence biometry IOL Master. Relationships between the wavefront aberrations and IOP,CCT and AL were statistical analyzed by SPSS software respectively.[Results](1)The mean IOP was 15.16±2.47 mmHg in right eye and 15.08±2.28 mmHg in left eye;The mean CCT was 519.76±33.00μm in right eye and 512.27±32.80μm in left eye;The mean AL was 24.93±1.01mm in right eye and 24.92±0.95 mm in left eye.There was no significant difference between right eyes and left eyes in IOP,CCT and AL.(2)A significant correlation was found between IOP and CCT in the right eyes(r=0.298,P=0.01)and left eyes(r=0.251,P=0.02)of the 82 subjects.(3)With a 6.0mm pupil,the mean Zernike aberrations from the 3rd to 6th order for the anterior corneal surface and whole eye in both eyes trended to decrease progressively.The mean values of Zernike aberrations were significant for the anterior corneal surface and the whole eye including including Z6,Z8,Z12.Root-mean-square aberrations(RMS)from the 3rd to 6th order for the anterior corneal surface and whole eye in both eyes trended to decrease progressively.(4)Correlation coefficients between Zernike aberrations in the anterior cornea and the whole eye and IOP in both eyes were small.(5)Correlation coefficients between Zernike aberrations in the anterior cornea and the whole eye and CCT in both eyes were small.(7)In the anterior cornea,correlation coefficients between Zernike aberrations and AL in both eyes were small.But in the whole eye,correlation coefficients between Zernike aberrations and AL in both eyes were significant,including Z14(r=-0.29,P=0.01 for right eye; r=-0.32,P=0.04 for left eye),Total HOA(r=0.46,P=0.00 for right eye;r=0.30,P=0.01 for left eye),3rd order RMS(r=0.46,P=0.001 for right eye;r=0.26,P=0.02 for left eye),4th order RMS(r=0.12,P=0.05 for right eye;r=0.28,P=0.01 for left eye),5th order RMS(r=0.38,P=0.00 for right eye;r=0.22,P=0.05 for left eye),6th order RMS(r=0.33,P=0.002 for right eye;r=0.35,P=0.001 for left eye).[Conclusion]Intraocular pressure and central corneal thickness was not associated with high-order wavefront aberrations in both the cornea and the whole eye. Another way,axial length was associated with high-order wavefront aberrations in whole eye,but very weakly associated with wavefront aberrations in the anterior cornea.
