Objective: To discusses the mechanism by observing therapeutic action about XiaoChaiHu decoction to depressed model rat, which would provide experimental and theory basis for classical prescription in treating and preventing depression.Methods: 40 SD rats were divided randomly into 4 groups: normal group, model group , treating group (treating with XiaoChaiHu decoction) , and control group (treating with Fluoxetine), and ten rats each group. Late three groups were made through swimming in the icy water, infibulating tail, cutting off water 24 hours, cutting off food 24 hours, reversing day and night, electric shocking the plantar surfaces of toe. In the same time, treating group: XiaoChaiHu decoction was given according to 10ml/kg; control group: Fluoxetine was given according to 2mg/kg; normal group was done nothing. Observing the changes of weight, detecting the contents of DA, 5-HT, cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, and triglyceride in blood after thirty days.Result: the changes of weight and the contents of DA,5-HT,cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein,triglyceride in blood show: there are significantly differences between normal group and model group (P < 0.05) ;there are no significantly differences between normal group and control group (P>0.05) besides weigh,triglyceride; there are no significantly differences between normal group and treating group; there are significantly differences between model group and control group (P < 0.05) besides weight; there are significantly differences between model group and treating group (P < 0.05) ; there are no significantly differences between treating group and control group (P>0.05) besides weight,triglyceride,high-density lipoprotein.Conclusion: There were no significantly differences in changes of weight, and contents of DA, 5-HT, cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, and triglyceride in blood during the treating group, control group and normal group, which improve XiaoChaiHu decoction had an effective function in anti-depression.
