Objective:To assess the level of advanced glycation end products(AGEs) and intima-media thickness(IMT) in the patients with impaired glucose regulation(IGR) and normal glucose regulation(NGR) group. To identify the characteristics and risk of macrovascular diseases in IGR group will help to prevent and treat it.Participants and methods 1,All participants were come from the first affiliated hospital of Ji Nan University from August 2007 to February 2008.2,All participants had no history of diabetes and take an 75g glucose OGTT to distinguish the patients in the IGR or NGR group.3,Recorded detail medical history, anthropometrical parameters (height, weight, blood pressure).A colour ultrasonic examination was performed to determine the IMT.4,Take the OGTT fasting plasma to test the level of AGEs 5,Biochemical indices:fasting plasma glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol,LDL-cholesterol,alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),hsCRP.Results 1,96 individuals were in this study,60 in the IGR group and 36 in the NGR group. The age of the participants ranged from 36 to 75 while there was no significant difference in age and sex between the IGR and NGR groups.2,The fasting triglycerides, total cholesterol,LDL-cholesterol,hsCRP,AGEs,SBP,DBP,PP,BMI and IMT had significant difference between IGR group and NGR group(P<0.05).3,There were more metabolic disorders in IGR group than the NGR group, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome were 73%versus 47%in the two group(P=0.01).4,The Logistic multivariate analysis showed that 2h-PG and aging were risk factors of IMT increase(P<0.05).5,The serum AGEs levels were not significantly correlated with IMT or hsCRP in the study group as a whole(P>0.05).Conclusion 1,metabolic disorders and CVD risk factors are more common in the IGR group.2,The degree of the AGEs,hsCRP level were higher in the IGR group, and the IMT was thicker than the NGR group, but the serum AGEs levels were not significantly correlated with IMT,hsCRP in the study group as a whole.3,2h-PG was an risk factor of the thickness IMT in the nondiabetes.Performing OGTT in the patients with metabolic disorders may be useful for early screening of macrovascular diseases.
