Jaw defect is a common disease in the mouth medicine,which could be caused by tumor,congenital abnormality,trauma and serious firearm damage. Repair and construction of the skull defects is one of the most difficult problems in the mouth medicine all the while for the structure and function complexity of skull. Titanium has been comprehensively used in the maxillofacial surgery for its biocompatibility and physical and chemical characteristics. However,because of the complexity of skull., it is difficult to make Titanium brackets having shape consistency with the skull defects. Based on the CT data of skull defect,the bracket meeting the clinical needs is designed using the reverse engineering combined with the rapid prototyping. Compared with the traditional repair method,it can increase the success ratio of the operation and reduce the operation time.3D reconstruction from CT medical images is studied in the paper,consisting of obtaining,storing,pre-disposing,division and visualization of the medical images. The problems met in the reconstruction process are solved. The designing of bracket using the reverse engineering software is also studied.The clinical operation needs good precision. The error mechanism of model disposing,machine system and manufacturing technology , along with the three main factors affecting the manufacturing precision,are analyzed. At the same time, the corresponding improving methods are proposed. The precision is improved and meets the clinical needs.The bracket used for repairing the skull defects is thin,which is inclined to be warpage during sintering. The mechanism of thin parts'warpage is studied. The influences of different sintering parameters such as material,preheating,laser power, part'shape on the warpage were studied,and some methods are proposed to reduce the degree of warpage. It is proved through experiment that the degree of warpage is reduced effectively.
