There are three major factors related with clinical performances(CPs) of undergraduate nursing students in China.Teaching and student factors are already proved to influence undergraduate nursing students' CPs.However, studies about the relationship between undergraduate nursing students' evaluation of the clinical learning environment(GEE) and their CPs are limited. Objective:The purpose of this study was to describe how the CLE were evaluated by the last-year undergraduate nursing students in China,to describe how the students thought their CPs,and to investigate the relationship between their CPs and their elvaluation of CLE in early and middle phases of clinical practice. And the students' evaluation of CLE and their CPs in early practice phase were compared with those in middle practice phase. Methods:A descriptive and correlative design was employed.By stratified pro rata sampling, the last-year undergraduate nursing students from 22 nursing schools in China were selected.Three instruments including the demographic form, the Nursing Clinical Learning Environment Scale(NCLES) and the Clinical Performance Self-rating Scale for Undergraduate Nursing Students(CPSSUNS) were used.Data were collected at the end of early and middle phases of clinical practice.Results:①The means of undergraduate nursing students' CPs were 3.70±0.43 in early practice phase and 3.68±0.47 in middle practice phase. There was no significant difference between students' CPs in the two phases(P=0.367).②The means of undergraduate nursing students' elvaluation of CLE were respectively 3.36±0.57 in early practice phase and 3.39±0.62 in middle practice phase.Students' evaluation of CLE were not different in the two phases(P=0.226).③Correlation coefficients between the students' evaluation of CLE and their CPs were 0.436 in early practice phase(P≤0.010) and 0.520 in middle practice phase(P≤0.010).④The stepwise linear regression analysis revealed that the students' evaluation of CLE could explain 20.1%variance of their CPs in early practice phase(P≤0.000),and 28.3%in middle practice phase(P≤0.000).Conclusions:①Undergraduate nursing students' CPs were at the middle level in both early and middle clinical practice phases, with no difference in both phases.②Undergraduate nursing students were moderately satisfied with the CLE in early and middle clinical practice phases, with no difference in both phases.③There were close associations between the students' evaluation of the CLE and their CPs.The associations strengthened in middle phase.④Undergraduate nursing students' evaluation of CLE influenced their CPs in the two phases, especially in middle phase.
