Background and Objective:Presently there are two methods of surgical resection of colorectal cancer, which are traditional open surgery and laparoscopic surgery. Therefore,QOL(Quality of life) had become an indicator for more precise reflection of the effect of a treatment and the recovery of patients as compared with survival rate and mortality rate.In form of survey, the variation of postoperative QOL in 50 patients of each type of surgery were being observed, the influence of the surgery to the postoperative QOL and other factors are compared and analyzed. Methods:Between January 2006 to February 2007,100 patients were admitted to the First Affiliated HosPital of the Jinan University had consented to join the study and subsequently received surgical treatments. Within which 50 cases were allocated into the open surgery group, and 50 cases allocated into the laparoscopic surgery group.According to the 3rd Chinese adition of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Core Questionnaire(EORTC QLQ-C30),QOL were determined at the time of pre-operation,and,1stweek,4thweek,3thmonth,6thmonth and 12thmonth post-operation respectively. The QOL was presented in the form of(?)±s,as the scores had shown a distribution not of a normal distribution, thus displayed in the form of median(quarter intervals).By using SPSS 13.0 analyze software to display the data, and the life quantitative data were judged by the Mann-Whitney U test, categorical data are subjected to theχ2 test and the exact probability test. There is no difference of statistical significance(P<0.05).Results:The pre-operative QOL of both group A and B patients have no statistically significant difference on comparison. The 1st week after operation, the QOL group A had shown obvious lower QOL than that of group B,mainly manifested in the body, character, emotional and social function, but the scoring significance of regarding symptoms like fatigue, pain and loss of appetite etc are higher than that of group B 4thweek after operation, the group B had QOL higher than the pre-operation level, and the group A had the same level of pre-operation,both groups had shown significant raised score in emotional status compared with pre-operation level, and mildly raised score for other aspects. After 3rdmonth after operation, both groups had shown raised score in all aspects comparing with pre-operation level.6th and 12thmonth after operation, the scores of QOL in both groups has no clinical significance apart from the score of social function domain having statistical significance, score of all other domains had no significant difference. Conclusion:Comparing with open surgery, laparoscopic colorectal cancer resection had shown obvious advantage in postoperative QOL, however, its influence to long-term QOL still require further study.
