Objective:To investigate the clinical significance of Cyclooxygenase-2 and P-glycoprotein expressions in Gastric Carcinoma. Methods:The expressions of COX-2 and P-gp in 60 cases of gastric carcinoma were detected by SP immunohistochemical technique. Results: The positive rates of COX-2 and P-gp were 63.3% (38/60) and 68.3% (41/60) in the whole group, respectively. Some significant correlations were observed between the expression of COX-2 and clinical factors including the differential degree (u_C=3.582, P=0.000),depth of invasion (u_C=3.084, P=0.002),lymph node metastasis (u_C=2.570 P=0.010),TNM staging (X~2=7.552, P=0.006);And they were observed between the expression of P-gp and clinical factors including the depth of invasion (u_C=2.448,P=0.014),lymph node metastasis (u_C=2.547, P=0.011) and TNM staging (X~2=5.396,P=0.020).Some significant correlations were observed between the COX-2 and P-gp both positive group, only COX-2 positive group, only P-gp positive group and COX-2 and P-gp both negative group, the clinical factors including the differential degree (X~2=27.136, P=0.000),depth of invasion(X~2=12.513, P=0.006),lymph node metastasis (X~2=22.107, P=0.009),TNM staging (X~2=12.146, P=0.007).The expression of COX-2 had significant correlation with P-gp in gastric carcinoma (r=0.374P=0.004).The overall survival rate of 1,3,5year was 83.3%n 40.0% and 30.0%, respectively. And it was 79.0%,28.9%,15.8% and 90.9%,59.1%,54.6% in COX-2 positive and negative group, respectively (X~2=7.885,P=0.005).Conclusion: COX-2 involved in the adjustment of P-gp in gastric carcinoma. COX-2 expression may be used as an important survival predictor in gastric carcinoma.
