Objective To assay the amount of peripheral blood CDS~+ CD28~- T cells and explore their significance in the pathogenesis of AS.Methods Our topic included two experimental groups, one was the case group and the other was the normal control. There were 50 definite AS patients in the case group(44 males and 6 females),the age in this group varied from 13 to 45 and the average age was 25±8,the diagnosis of all AS patients accorded with the New York criteria modified in 1984.The normal control included 21 healthy subjects(17 males and 4 females) who took health examination in our hospital, the age in this group varied from 16 to 35 and the average age was 25±5.There was no statistics difference in age and sex between the case group and the normal control.Collecting 5 ml venous blood from every subject,2 ml heparin sodium anticoagulated blood was for the detection of surface molecular on peripheral blood lymphocyte, the serum separated from the other 3 ml venous blood was for the detection of CRP.The amount of CD8~+ CD28~- T cells obtained from 50 AS patients and 21 healthy controls was assayed by flow cytometry.CRP was assayed by the method of ITM.Results The percentage of peripheral blood CDS~+CD28~- T cells in patients with AS was significantly increased compared to normal individuals[(17.9±5.7 )%vs(14.5±4.9)%,P= 0.020],while the percentage of peripheral blood CD3~+,CD8~+ CD28~+T cells in patients with AS were significantly decreased[(64.7±8.6)%vs(69.3±7.7)%,P= 0.039];[(14.9±5.3)%vs(17.7±4.3)%,P= 0.038].No difference was found in the amount of CD8~+ T cells between patients with AS and normal individuals (P>0.05).The amount of CD8~+ CD28~- T ceils in the high level CRP group was significantly increased compared to the cells in the normal level CRP group[(18.8±5.4)%vs(14.5±6.0)%,P= 0.026].Conclusions The amount of peripheral blood CD8~+ CD28~- T ceils in patients with AS was significantly increased compared to normal individuals,CD8~+ CD28~- T cells may play an important role in the pathogenesis of AS.
