Analysis on the population's causes of death is an important part of Demographic study ,but Demography mainly concern of the population mortality and life expectancy in China. Researching on the causes of death directly is not too much. Medical research mainly focus on a local area, instead of the whole country. Therefore, systematic analysis of the proportion of dying in China's population is of great significance. This article analyzes the proportion of dying in China's population and its changes based on two aspects of data: on the one hand, using historical data to analyze the proportion of dying in China's population and its changes after 1919, especially since the reform and opening up ; on the other hand, using current data to analyze the current proportion of dying in China's population. These two aspects of data are all from the Ministry of Health, and the current data is more detailed than the historical data. We began to use International Classification of Diseases( ICD-10) widely since 2002 in China, so this paper focus on the proportion of dying in China's population and its changes since 2003. Furthermore, this paper also analyze factors which have influence on it.This study shows that since 1919, the proportion of dying in China's population has changed after these three 30 years. China's top five causes of death are cancer, cerebrovascular disease, heart disease, respiratory disease, injury and poisoning respectively, accounting for more than 80 percent of all the causes of death. With the eliminated cause analysis, we can see that the average life expectancy is mostly affected by cancer, besides, by analyzing PYLL, we know that injury and poisoning caused "premature death" seriously. After reform and opening up, it exists differences in the proportion of dying in China's urban and rural population. By analyzing the eliminated cause and PYLL, we conclude that there are many differences between ages, genders and urban-rural areas. Many factors resulted in these differences within the proportion of dying and changes. These factors can be summarized to two types: the population factor and non- population factor. The industrial "three wastes" greatly impact on cancer with the correlation analysis about major causes of death and environmental indicators. Then this paper makes suggestions that the government should implement health planning and health policy basing on the proportion of dying in China's population and its changes. Moreover, people also should enhance disease prevention, establish a healthy concept and a healthy lifestyle.
