PurposeThe aim of the paper is to offer reference for the internationalization and localization development of our nursing discipline according to exploring the nursing discipline institutionalization in China and United States and extracting their characteristics and making Comparisons.Objects of studyNursing discipline institutionalization which involve nursing education, nursing academic groups,nursing academic journals,social role of experts,nursing technological innovation and nursing professional standards was elaborated detailedly in China and United States.MethodsLiterature retrieval method,history method,comparative study method were used mainly in the paper.Conclusion1 Summarizing the characteristics of nursing discipline institutionalization in China:①Dedication is the dominant nursing idea;②Implantation is main developmental pattern;③Unitary management is the main discipline-building mechanism;④The main reflect is that nursing development is not adapted to medical education and socio-economic development needs.2 Summarizing the characteristics of nursing discipline institutionalization in United States:①Social needs is basic starting point;②Higher nursing education is the decisive factor;③scientific discipline-building mechanisms is major impetus;④Innovative idea is main line;⑤Specialization is the main trend;⑥The transition from implantation to generation is essence.3 Analyzing the similarities and differences of nursing discipline institutionalization between China and United States:①The same point: same institutionalization goal,starting point,initial time and contents.②The different point: social backgrouds, processes, power mechanism and ways, and the institutionalization extents in nursing education, nursing academic groups, nursing academic journals, social role of experts, nursing technological innovation and nursing professional standards.4 The comparative study of nursing discipline institutionalization between China and United States gives our nursing discipline development for some lesson:①Countries need to attach importance to and strengthen the support to nursing;②Nursing development needs to adapt to the socio-economic development;③Innovation is internal support forces in the development of nursing;④Giving more attention to higher nursing education especially graduate education;⑤Internationalization and localization determines the growth of nursing science.Suggestions1 We should view dedication and innovation as a development philosophy of nursing2 To attach importance to nursing higher education, especially graduate education3 To promote the local generation of nursing4 To push nursing towards the direction of specialization and pay attention to conforming medicine development trend5 We need to pay more attention to and support nursing disciplineOriginality in this studyWe Conduct a systemic study to nursing discipline institutionalization in United States and compare with nursing discipline institutionalization in China and raise respective characteristics,similarities and differences,enlightenments, especially the idea that our nursing discipline development should accomplish the transition from implantation to generation.Conceptions for making further investigationsTo further collect some information on nursing discipline institutionalization in China and United States.
