Objective To discuss applying the techniques of CAD/CAM into the reparation of defects and correction of deformity on the jaw bones,in order to improve the accuracy and controllability of clinical operations. Methods With CAD techniques,3D bone model was reconstructed based on CT images, then repairing model was created with mirror operation on original model. The physical models of original model and repairing model were fabricated through rapid prototyping.Based on physical models, operation plan and model surgery could be designed as well as preplating on the models was possible. Results The designed operation plan and preplating on the models were successfully applied in 9 clinical cases with satisfactory treatment results. Conclusion With techniques of CAD/CAM,reconstructing and fabricating the original bone model and mirror repairing model, are very helpful for designing operation plan of maxillofacial surgery. It also can promote the surgery accuracy, save operation time, and improve communication between doctors and patients obviously.
