A high strength bioactive glass-ceramics have been prepared by crystallization treatment for the CaO-SiO2-P2O5 base glasses. By introducing Sr into silicate glass (45S5 glass), and introducing Zr into AW glass-ceramic, were prepared at different Sr,Zr contents bioglasses. The bioactivity of these bioglasses was evaluated by the formation rate of hydroxyapatite (HAP) crystals with X-ray diffraction method. The cell compatibility to osteoblast cells of these bioglasses was assessed by contact and attachment tests using optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The microstructure, physics and chemical Properties, bioactivity of bioactive glass were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Crystalline phases are identified by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) for the glass-ceramics before and after soaked in the simulated body fluid. The microstructures of the glass-ceramics before and after soaked in the simulated body fluid are researched using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicate that main crystalline phase of the glass-ceramics is apatite; the glass-ceramics have good biological activity and high mechanical strength. The results obtained are described as follows:(1) The sample has smaller crystal size and more compact structure so that the glass-ceramics has higher bending strength and crack toughness.(2) Bioactivity: The formation rate of HAP on the samples increased with the increasing of strontium content, so did the crystallinity of HAP. The bioactivity improved with increasing of strontium content.(3) Cell compatibility: Comparing with AW glass-ceramic, the sample bioglass with high content zirconium did have certain inhibition on the growth of osteoblast cells, but osteoblast cells which attached on the borosilicate glass plate surface or the ones near the interface of glass plate still presented good growth on the whole.
