Objcetive:To study the speech recognition score(SRS) of the prelingual deaf children who received a cochlear implant(CI) in one ear and wore a hearing aid (HA) in the other ear(CI+ HA) in quiet and in noise,and compared with the performance of unilateral cochlear implant(CI) children.The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of contralateral hearing aids on performance of cochlear implant user.Methods:Twenty six inborn prelingual deaf children with CI were registered in the test,whose ages were 4 to 7 years old.After first mapping,they were divided into two groups to use different modes of hearing rehabilitation,that is CI+HA mode and CI mode.An open-set test including recognition of consonants,vowels, monosyllable and short sentences,was administered on all subjects.The SRS in quiet and in +10dB,+5dB SNR noisy enviroment was analyzed and compared between the CI+HA recipient and the CI users.Rsults:In quiet enviroment,the hearing effect in speech recognition test had no significant difference between two groups(P>0.05).For CI group patients in quiet,the decreasing sequence of testing sound according to SRS,was vowels, monosyllable,short sentences,consonants(P<0.05);while for CI+HA group patients in quiet,the decreasing sequence was vowels,short sentences, monosyllable,consonants(P<0.05).In +10dB,+5dB SNR noisy enviroment,SRS was significantly lower than that in quiet enviroment in both groups(P<0.05).And SRS of CI+HA group was significantly higher than that of CI group(P<0.001).Conclution:Those inborn prelingual deaf children who received a cochlear implant in one ear and wore a hearing aid in the other ear(CI+ HA) can improve their hearing effect.
