The "cases of well-known physicians" serial is composed of two books:"cases of well-known physicians " and "continued cases of well-known physicians ".The book "cases of well-known physicians" is assembled by JIangGuan and his son of the Ming Dynasty, and is the first book about medical cases of our country. It includes nearly 3000 medical cases taken place before Ming Dynasty, which are divided into 205 types. The medical cases in the book mainly include internal medicine, and surgery, gynecology, pediatrics as well. The book is both a summary of the pre-Ming Dynasty well-known physicians' clinical experience and a model of the integration of theory and clinical practice of Chinese medicine. It is of both high literature value and clinical value."Continued cases of well-known physicians" is assembled by Wei Zhixiu of the Qing Dynasty. It reinforces the "cases of well-known physicians ",and it includes 36 volumes of cases that are divided into 345 types. The two books compile a large number of ancient medical cases, and have a significant impact on later physicians. It is very essential and meaningful to learn and research the contents of the two books. Medical case is the important information for the research of physicians' academic thought and clinical experience.Song, Jin and Yuan Dynasties are the unprecedented phase of medical case development. In this period, most physicians, such as SUN Zhao,Zhang Zi,Li Dongyuan,Zhu Danxi,Luo Xianfu handed down medical cases:there are 740 cases in "cases of well-known physicians ",and 560 cases in "continued cases of well-known physicians ".Through the study of the two books, we can understand the characteristics and the development of clinical diagnosis in Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasty. As an innovative clinical diagnostic method, the research of Traditional Chinese Medicine pulse diagnosis can not be limited to the study of pulse books. We need also study the medical cases seriously.Pulse diagnosis is written in most medical cases, from which we can learn the uses of pulse diagnosis in clinical diagnosis. There are 286 pulse diagnosis cases in "cases of well-known physicians ",and 164 pulse diagnosis cases in "continued cases of well-known physicians ", all of which are in the Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasties. This thesis is based on the 450 cases mentioned above. It analyses and summarizes the development of Pulse Theory and the character of ancient physicians' clinical pulse diagnosis in Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasty, and then compares pulse theory books' conclusions with clinical practice recorded. The contents are expounded mainly from the following aspects: Firstly, this thesis gives a whole analysis oi pulse conditions recorded in Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasties in the two books "cases of well-known physicians " and "continued cases of well-known physicians ".There are 450 cases totally in the two books,of which 88 cases are Song Dynasty,78 cases are Jin Dynasty, and 284 cases are Yuan Dynasty. We can find 38 kinds of pulse conditions from the two books. The emergence times of each kind are different. Some appear a large number of times, form example,117 cases of full pulse,112 cases of taut pulse;some appear a little number of times, such as 13 cases of casual pulse,10 cases of long-pulse.Compared with the 38 kinds above, there are only 28 kinds of pulse conditions in common pulse books. This thesis analyses the cases and tries to find out the difference of the pulse conditions between the two books' and common pulse books, and how it happens.Affected by the patients' sick time,place,gender,age,evidence-based, treatment, medication, and the physicians' diagnose methods, clinical experiences, the pulse conditions emerged in the two books are more than those in common pulse books.Secondly, this thesis gives a summary of what kinds of illnesses each single pulse is commonly found, and lists the illnesses by dynasties. Then compares this summary with the summary in pulse books, and finds out the different kinds of illnesses mentioned and how it happens. This thesis also analyses the development of clinical pulse diagnosis in each period, and the characteristics of physicians' diagnosis. Thirdly, this thesis gives an overall statistical analysis of the complex pulse conditions in the cases. It sums up 370 complex pulse conditions in the Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasties in "cases of well-known physicians " and "continued cases of well-known physicians ".In the 28 kinds of common pulse conditions,23 kinds have complex pulse conditions. Some have more, such as heavy pulse,59 kinds, taut pulse,47 kinds. Some have only one, such as late pulse, weak pulse, lurk pulse. In addition, there are still a very few kinds of complex pulse that are not included in the 28 common pulse, such as strong and heavy pulse. At the conclusion of these cases these complex pulse appear more complicated, usually are composed of 2,3 or more single pulses. But pulse books usually introduce them too simply. After comparing the similarities and differences between the two,it can be analyzed as a result that the patients' sick time, place, gender, age and other human factors, illness factors, the progression of the disease, the medical awareness of the disease will affect the pulse combination.Fourthly, this thesis analyzes the complex pulses of each single pulse, and in what kinds of illnesses(listed by dynasties) each complex pulse is found. Then it compares these complex pulses with the summary in pulse books, and finds out the same and different complex pulses. And then,it illustrates and analyzes the instances that the same complex pulse happened in different illnesses and the different complex pulse happened in different illnesses. Through the study of the pulse conditions of the Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasties in "cases of well-known physicians " and "continued cases of well-known physicians ",we can have a general understanding of Pulse Diagnosis in the clinical application of that period.Through the analysis of the chart we can see the common pulse conditions in common medical cases. Through the compare of clinical application and the medical theory in pulse books,we can see the difference between them. And this can guide us to a better understanding of the pulse books,as well as the pulse thinking and the history of pulse application. These compare and analysis can provide us references for our later clinical pulse diagnosis.
