Background and objective:Focal nodular hyperplasia(FNH) is the second most frequent benign liver tumour to hemangiomas in benign liver tumors. It represents 13.8%of all liver benign tumours and 1.1%of all live tumours.Despite the the incidence of FNH is not low,but it usually has no clinical symptoms, what's more,it's hard to correct diagnosis between other live tumours such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and hepatocellular with imaging methods;so most of clinical doctors are not familiar with FNH.This Study was designed to discuss the epidemiology, clinical, imaging and pathologic features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of this rare disease, in order to advance the cognition of FNH.Methods:we collected clinical data of 13 patients with FNH,including general history, medical history, therapeutic history and outcome. All the patients who were treated in the First Affiliated Hospital,Zhejiang University School of Medicine from January 1996 to December 2007.Then we reviewed the related literatures, and retrospectively analyzed the date. Results:Of all 13 FNH patients in our hospital from 1996 to 2007,8 were male and 5 female, which age from 19 to 54 years old,the averageage was 34.9 year' s old.8 cases visit for being discovered hepatic mass by imaging techniques.3 cases visit for abdominal pain or(and) other symptoms.2 cases visit for touching mass himself.3 cases of all have infected HBV virus in the past. All of 5 women haven't used oral contraceptive. In blood assay,1 case's ALT and GGT rise little,1 case's conjugated bilirubin(CB) increase folds,2 cases' CA199 rise little, other index such as AFP, albumin, porthrombin is normal. All of 12 cases had single focus,1 is multiple lesion, with tumor diameter<5 cm in 7 cases,5~10 cm in 6 cases,and>10 cm in one. Correct preoperative diagnosis was made in 4 cases(30.8%).The correct diagnostic rate of BUS,CT and MRI was 7.6%,42.8%and 0%,respectively.All 13 cases underwent operation with an uneventful recovery and without recurrence at follow-up.Conclusions:FNH more frequently develops in young men.Although FNH has no observe symptoms and definite preoperative diagnosis is usually difficult even in cases of typ ical type of FNH.Surgical resection is the treatment of choice when a patient becomessymp tomatic orwhen malignancy could not be excluded.CT and MR I are mandatory for the diagnosis of FNH.Surgery is the mainstay of treatment, and the patients could receive a good prognosis.
