China has abundant Chinese traditional and herbal drugs resources. Investigation on the chemical and biological constituents of Chinese traditional and herbal drugs is important for the discovery of new drug leads and the endowment of scientific background for Chinese traditional and herbal drugs. In this paper, the chemical and biological constituents of two plant species,Pteris semipinnata L.and Euphorbia lathyris L.were carried out.Twenty compounds were totally isolated, and the structures of nineteen compounds were established by utilization spectral methods such as IR,UV,MS,NMR,especially 2D NMR techniques(~1H-~1H COSY, HSQC,HMBC,NOESY).Among them, five are structurally new compounds. Thirteen compounds were isolated from Pteris semipinnata L.,the structures of twelve compounds were established,in which there were five new compounds, including one new 1-H-indan-1-one-type sesquiterpenoid, one new ent-kaurane-type diterpenoid, one new 1-H-indan-1-one-type sesquiterpene glucoside, one new labdane-type diterpene glucoside and one new 1-H-indan-1-ol-type sesquiterpenoid.Seven compounds were isolated from Euphorbia lathyris L.,including glycerol monooleate, ingenol, aesculetin, and four lathyrane-type diterpenoids.Among them, glycerol monooleate is obtained from Euphorbia lathyris L.for the first time.
