| Objective:To analyze the relativity ofβ-amyloid peptide 40(Aβ40)and 42 (Aβ42) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and Atherosclerosis (AS).Methods:78 cases of patients with T2DM,including 40 cases of males and 38 cases of females, were recruited from a group of inpatients at the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University and the enrollment started from October to December in 2008. These patients, whose average duration was 8.96±3.00 years, hepatic function and renal function were normal ,without infection, ketosis, tumors and other chronic diseases, were divided into 2 groups:T2DM with AS group and T2DM without AS group. In the meantime, 46 cases of patients with AS but not T2DM, whose age, duration and gender were matched with the patients of T2DM, and 40 cases of healthy subjects were selected as control groups. The group of AS was diagnosed by the characteristics of cardiovascular disease, cerebral vascular disease, or peripheral artery disease. For the T2DM with AS group including the above characteristics, the T2DM without AS group excluding the above characteristics, an additional necessary condition was that the values of intima-media thickness of the conducting arteries were limited within 1.0mm.At the time of enrollment, the data of physical examinations were collected from all the subjects, including the following variables: age, gender, body mass index (BMI), waist hip ratio (WHR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP). Fasting blood was obtained for assay of serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), HbA1c, plasma glucose levels andβ-amyloid peptide 40(Aβ40),β-amyloid peptide 42 (Aβ42) by standard laboratory techniques.Results:Aβ40 level of T2DM group (450.25±247.27) and AS group (318.52±188.65) were significantly higher than that of the healthy control group (162.63±87.58). Patients in T2DM with AS group(DAS) (616.95±195.13) had higher Aβ40 level than those in isolate T2DM group (274.7±159.51) and isolate AS group (318.52±188.65) (P<0.05). The level of Aβ40 was positively correlated with waist circumference, SBP, FPG, TC and TG, but negatively correlated with high density lipoproteins by backwad multivariate linear regression analysis. In the group of non-DM, WC, SBP and Aβ40 were correlated with atherosclerosis, based on multiple logistic regressive analysis,(OR=2.923,1.12,1.015 and P=0.001,0.012,0.066,respeti- vely), In the group of T2DM, TG, HbA1c, Aβ40 were correlated with macrovascular complications of T2DM (OR=1.617,2.629,1.012,and P=0.052, 0.018,<0.001, respectively). The level of Aβ42 was positively correlated with waist circumference, but showed no differences between each two groups. Conclusions:The level of Aβ40 was associated with AS and it may be a risk factor of AS. Aβ40, along with TG and HbA1c, might be the risks factors of macrovascular complications in T2DM patients. For non-T2DM, Aβ40,WC,SBP might be the risk factors of AS. The level of soluble Aβ42 may not be a risk factor of AS. |
